Originally constructed in 1910, the Arden–Diman–Eccles Dormitories at St. George’s School in Middletown, Rhode Island were revitalized through a comprehensive renovation and targeted addition that enhances the historic residence halls while strengthening the school’s residential community.
The project involved renovations to the approximately 60,000-square-foot, three-story dormitory complex, including structural modifications to the existing masonry bearing walls and interior wood framing to accommodate two new elevators and reconfigured student living spaces. A new 2,000-square-foot addition at the rear central bay introduces a light-filled common area with flexible furnishings and views across campus, designed to encourage student collaboration and gathering.
At the heart of the project, Diman Hall’s central core beneath the historic clock tower was reimagined as shared community space for both boarding and day students, supporting academic study, social interaction, and campus programming. The renovation also includes new faculty apartments to expand on-campus housing and strengthen the residential presence of faculty.
Completed in 2025, the project carefully balances historic preservation with modern functionality, reinforcing the architectural character of the Hilltop campus while supporting the evolving needs of St. George’s residential life.
