Philadelphia, PA – January 12, 2026

Dean joined Keast & Hood in 1986 and was named Principal in 1989, quickly establishing himself as a leader defined by integrity, technical excellence, and a deep commitment to client relationships. Over the course of his career, he has played a vital role in shaping the firm’s legacy and its reputation for thoughtful, collaborative engineering.

Dean’s professional contributions extend across a remarkable range of cultural, institutional, and historic projects throughout the Northeast. His portfolio includes some of the region’s most treasured landmarks, such as the Academy of Music, The Penn Museum,  Princeton University, Union League of Philadelphia, Independence Hall, The Philadelphia  Museum of Art, Lucy the Elephant, The Franklin Institute, Christ Church, Museum of the American Revolution, and Drexel University, among many others.

Through each of these endeavors, Dean has demonstrated an exceptional ability to balance the artistry and science of structural engineering – bringing creativity, precision, and empathy to every project. His dynamic approach and deep respect for the perspectives of owners, architects, and builders have earned him the trust and loyalty of clients across generations. Dean’s relationships – built on decades of partnership, communication, and shared purpose – have become a cornerstone of Keast & Hood’s ongoing success.

“Dean’s dedication to his clients and his ability to see beyond the immediate challenges of a project to its greater architectural and cultural context have made him a truly exceptional engineer,” said Denise Richards, PE, Principal at Keast & Hood. “He embodies the values that have defined our firm for more than seventy years – technical excellence, thoughtful leadership, and a genuine care for the people and communities we serve.”

A meticulous and innovative engineer, Dean’s strength lies not only in solving complex structural challenges, but also in understanding how those solutions impact the broader design vision. His work consistently reflects a balance of creativity, economy, and craftsmanship – qualities that have made him a favorite collaborator among architects and clients alike.

In addition to his project leadership, Dean has made significant contributions to the professional and academic communities. He is a past president of the Delaware Valley Association of Structural Engineers (now the Structural Engineers Association of Pennsylvania) and the Carpenters’ Company of the City and County of Philadelphia. Dean also served on the Advisory Board for the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at Drexel University, where he earned his B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering. As a former Adjunct Faculty Member in Drexel’s Department of Construction Management, College of Engineering, Dean was committed to mentoring the next generation of construction managers.

Throughout his career, Dean has been known as a patient and steady mentor – someone who leads by example and inspires others through his dedication, professionalism, and quiet confidence. His impact within Keast & Hood extends well beyond the projects he’s helped design; it lives in the engineers he has trained and the culture of collaboration he has fostered. Mentoring young engineers is something that Dean found greatly rewarding.

As Dean steps into this next chapter, Keast & Hood celebrates his extraordinary career and the lasting influence he leaves on the firm, its people, and the built environment. His legacy is one of excellence, mentorship, and enduring partnership, values that will continue to guide the firm for years to come.
