Nicholas Gianopulos to Receive 2005 Master Builder’s Award
Keast & Hood Co.’s Nicholas Gianopulos, PE, will receive the 2006 Master Builder’s Award, bestowed by the Carpenters Company of the City and County of Philadelphia at its annual gala to be held on September 29th at the National Constitution Center. The award is given in recognition of Gianopulos’ many contributions to the life, interest, and vitality of the Company, and his great contributions to the art and science of structural engineering and preservation of significant structures. David Cornelius, AIA, PE, recently spoke about the structural investigation and stabilization of the Exercise Yard Roofs at Eastern State Penitentiary. The Delaware Valley Chapter of the Association for Preservation Technology sponsored the June 14th lecture and tour. Stabilization efforts such as this have helped remove Eastern State from the National Park Service list of Endangered Landmarks. Keast & Hood co. recently completed a project to resupport an Assyrian stone relief at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Three stone panels comprising the relief were reinstalled in a new steel frame. The new structural support will permit the relief to be shipped to China as part of an art and artifact sharing program.
