KH Staff Members Volunteer at Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse

The DC office of Keast & Hood Co. enlisted ten of its staff members to provide volunteer labor for the US Lighthouse Society’s ongoing restoration efforts of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. Built in 1875 as a replacement for an on-shore tower light, the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse is the oldest, unmoved, spider-type screwpile lighthouse in the US. In an enjoyable, but demanding, effort on Friday, June 27th, the volunteers scraped, sanded, and primed deteriorated wood framing at the cottage level deck; assisted with the demolition of interior partitions scheduled for removal; restored the badly damaged perimeter guardrail assemblies; and gave the lighthouse a thorough cleaning inside and out. Keast & Hood Co. is grateful to the US Lighthouse Society for giving us the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful day on a magnificent historic structure.
