Casa Abierta wins two residential design awards

Casa Abierta, a residential design project in Chevy Chase, MD, was recognized with a 2014 Inform Award for “the intelligence and relative modesty of the renovation to a small suburban house,” according to the Inform jury. The Inform Awards annually recognize design excellence in the mid-Atlantic region. Click here to read more about the 2014 Inform Awards.

The project was also honored with a Citation for Renovation in the national Residential Architect 2014 Design Awards program, one of the most competitive residential design programs in the country. Click here to read the May 2014 digital edition featuring all of the award winners.

Designed by KUBE Architecture, Casa Abierta is a modern courtyard-style house with integrated indoor and outdoor living spaces. The design includes large sliding glass doors, an enlarged living room, and new kitchen and master suite wings. Exposed concrete masonry, sustainable cement board, raised platform decking, and wood bris-soleils form the modern architectural vocabulary. Keast & Hood provided structural engineering for the additions and renovation of the single-story structure.
