Casa Abierta Wins AIA VA 2016 Design Award
Casa Abierta receives its seventh award since completion in 2014. Adding to the list of accolades for the project is a 2016 Residential Design Honor Award from AIA Virginia. Completed with KUBE Architecture, the project in Chevy Chase, MD includes two new additions and an extensive interior renovation to the traditional, ranch style suburban home. Comments from this year’s jury highlight the design’s inventive relationship between the interior and exterior, “By borrowing space from the outdoors the house has a scale and grandeur that belies its small footprint”.
