The Lawrenceville School is a private boarding and day school in the state of New Jersey. The existing Abbott Dining Hall from the 1960’s was outdated and no longer served the campus effectively. The school wished to renovate the facility with the goal of improving both kitchen operations and the student experience. The new dining hall will reflect the school’s 200 plus year history while complementing the existing campus.
To successfully achieve the school’s vision for an updated dining hall, the project scope includes a full kitchen renovation, new dining server/layout, addition of private dining rooms, freight elevator installation, a full M/E/P upgrade, and a new roof. Keast and Hood allowed for a key roof design element by creatively integrating support of the new glue laminated roof trusses with the existing roof structure, through selective demolition.
Structural scope also includes the design and documentation of the structural interventions required for the installation of the new freight elevator, upgrading of the kitchen, modifications to the MEP infrastructure (wall and floor penetrations, dunnage, etc.) and installation of the new exterior dining room facade.
