Modernization of the five-building Terrace Dormitory complex required extensive renovation including structural repairs and upgrades.

The Terrace Dormitory complex houses freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior students in 172 rooms. Comprised of five contiguous five-story buildings and 90,000 sf of space, the historic complex was built in the 1820s of masonry with timber and iron framing. Keast & Hood provided structural engineering for a comprehensive renovation that included full building systems updates, temporary needle shoring to create new openings in the existing stone masonry bearing walls, accessibility and circulation upgrades including stair modernization and new elevators, roof upgrades, repair of the existing covered walkway, and creation of an interior entry hall. Home to more than 300 Mount Saint Mary’s University students during the academic year, the Terrace Dormitory complex now features a fitness room, several lounges, study rooms, elevators, and the restored Kane Family Chapel.
