The Edward H. Rosen Center for Jewish Life is a 15,000-sf state-of-the-art Hillel facility for students and alumni of Temple University.
The building is located on the corner of 15th and Norris Streets, situated between three existing buildings. The Hillel’s request for the new Rosen Center warranted the removal of these existing row houses and their partial basements. Keast & Hood provided structural design for the steel-framed, three-story building. It features brick and metal panel façades and a roof terrace. Interior amenities include a large lecture/dining room, A/V room, kosher kitchen, and a cyber café. Challenges included underpinning an occupied adjacent row house, a site retention system that required three sides of the site to construct foundations for the basement, and tall parapets serving as terrace railings.
