Keast & Hood served as the structural engineer of record for the original construction of Kahn’s highly regarded Richards building in 1962 and was retained in 2010 by EYP Architecture & Engineering and in 2013 by Atkin Olshin Schade Architects for phased renovations.
Phase I involves structural design for the renovation of the fifth and sixth floors with EYP. The renovation accommodates laboratories for the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience (CCN). The project includes infilling unused shear wall openings and creating new openings, floor infills in towers C and D, and miscellaneous concrete repairs. Keast & Hood also assisted the architect and window consultant with an investigation of the existing window system. Phase II with AOS Architects consists of structural design for the renovation of the first through fourth and seventh floors accommodating the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM).
