Structural design was provided for the 2009, 2013, and 2017 Presidential Inaugural Review Stands.
Keast & Hood provided structural design for the 2009, 2013, and 2017 Presidential Inaugural Review Stands. Three demountable, recyclable structures were designed and built on an extreme fast-track schedule in time for the historic January 20, 2009 inauguration. A Presidential Review Stand was located in front of the White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to accommodate President-Elect Barack Obama and his staff; a three-story Media Stand was located across Pennsylvania Avenue in Lafayette Park; and an additional Review Stand serving the DC Mayor’s staff was temporarily erected directly on the front steps of City Hall.
The project maintained a strong focus on sustainability in that 100 percent of the structural assemblies could be either reused in future inaugurations or recycled upon disassembly. In addition to providing full construction documents and construction administration, Keast & Hood provided a Building Information Model (BIM) using Revit Structure to meet the integrated project delivery requirements for all three structures.
Four years after providing structural design for the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Review Stands, Keast & Hood was back on the design team for the 2013 stands under a separate contract. All three of the 2013 demountable stands incorporated materials from the 2009 inventory. Keast & Hood has once again been retained to provide design for the 2017 Presidential Inauguration as well.
The Inaugural Stands were recognized with a Small Project Award of Merit in the Mid-Atlantic Construction Best of 2009 Awards.
