Nix Federal Building Post Office

The Nix Federal Building, originally built under the Public Works Administration in 1937. It is one of a small number of high-quality Art Deco buildings constructed in Philadelphia.

Renovation of the historic Post Office section of the federal building to house the passport office that is moving from the United States Custom House. The building was designed for the US Post Office, although since recently vacated they left 50,000 SF of available space to be converted.

Project scope includes the addition of two new ramps on the 9th street entrance for ADA accessibility, the addition of an elevator, partial removal of select walls for the interior renovation, and the removal of portions of security catwalk to create a new lightwell for the mezzanine space.

The building now contains open plan work stations, private offices, training rooms, and breaks rooms. While undergoing renovations they were able to retain the historical lobby which now serves as a space for security screening, service information, and waiting areas.
