New College House | Franklin & Marshall College

Keast & Hood provided structural engineering for the college’s first LEED certified building.

At the private, liberal arts college, residence life is characterized by College Houses – integrated living-learning environments designed to “foster the life of the mind.” The 63,000-sf New College House was designed in the Georgian Revival style to match core campus buildings. It includes a mix of double, suite, and apartment residences as well as a communal living room, seminar and multi-purpose rooms, offices, and a shared kitchen for student use. The structural system utilizes CMU bearing walls supporting concrete hollow-core plank with integrated structural steel to permit large gathering spaces. In addition, significant outdoor spaces were developed around the LEED Silver certified building.
