Washington Hose & Steam Fire Engine Company No. 1

The new hotel, West & Main is accentuated by the sensitive adaptive reuse of the adjacent Washington Hose & Steam Fire Engine Company building. The historic firehouse serves as the hotel lobby, restaurant and bar. The National Historic Registered building was constructed in 1874 and nominated in the early 1970’s.

Engineers worked with the Architect for the building on the historic structure, providing design stabilization and reinforcements for its new use after sitting vacant for a number of years. The structural scope of work is limited to the design and documentation for the stabilization and upgrade to the old firehouse so that it could be further developed by a restaurateur. The project was documented utilizing a combined schematic design / design development phase, with cost estimate, followed by the construction documents phase.
