# Arrupe Hall | Saint Joseph's University

Arrupe Hall at Saint Joseph’s University is a new, three-story building of approximately 15,000 GSF on the campus of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.  The building houses 15 Jesuit priests who teach at the University or at the nearby Jesuit high school.  The modern design is both elegant and serene and fits perfectly in a block of historic, one-time private homes in a quiet corner of the campus.  The primarily wood framed structure houses 15 individual bedroom suites with one floor dedicated to communal use for living, dining and reading.  A small chapel occupies one end of the structure and features a perforated brick wall backed up by glazing to effect a soft, filtered transmission of light both from outside to in and, at night, from inside to out. A carefully vetted, highly sustainable and cost efficient structural framing system maximizes the use of renewable, engineered lumber structural elements with just the minimum steel required to enable the first floors wide-open spaces.    
  
The project was recognized in the Innovation in Materials category for the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA) Structural Engineering Awards (SEE) in 2025.
