Oxford Community Center

Renovations and a small addition provided updates and amenities that will ensure the community center remains viable into the future.

Founded in 1971, the Oxford Community Center provides social, cultural, and recreational programs and events to over 8,000 Eastern Shore residents each year. The 10,000-sf center underwent renovations for safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency to ensure the building remains viable into the future. Keast & Hood provided structural engineering for design of a new ADA ramp, reconstruction of parapets, replacement of lintels, and a small rear addition that supports rooftop air-handling units. Structural design was provided for joist repairs, removing the ceiling of the auditorium space to expose steel trusses, and for additional theatrical set loading requirements.

The project earned a 2013 Merit Award for Preservation in the AIA Philadelphia Awards for Design Excellence program.
