Devlin Center for Science and Technology | LaSalle University

To accommodate the growth of LaSalle’s technology-driven curricula, a new center for science and technology was conceived. The result was the Hugh and Nancy Devlin Center for Science and Technology, which involved a 20,000-sf addition and 80,000-sf renovation.

Keast & Hood provided structural design for the new center. An addition and renovation combined to create a modern classroom and laboratory building with an open floor plan that encourages collaboration and cross-disciplinary learning. Engineering challenges included creating a shallow structure for the addition to enable matching existing 12-foot floor-to-floor heights, seismic analysis of the existing building to justify elimination of an expansion joint, and design for vegetated green roofs on both the addition and the existing building.
